For most of my career, I was a head nurse for a major hospital. So I know a lot about aged care. Now that I have retired I employ Esterlita for a few hours a week because one day I will temporarily need her full time to avoid staying in hospital or Government funded aged care facility. For the moment, we mainly go food shopping and I buy ingredients and Esterlita cooks a dinner plus a few other dishes, which we pack away for me to enjoy on other days. She drives me to visit my doctor(s) or we go shopping or to Casino and other forms of entertainment. I would definitely recommend Esterlita and Private Aged Care as good value in caring.
Mum and me have been living together for decades. We had a holiday home in Spain but sold it when she got too old to travel. She tried a Nursing home but hated it so much that we are back living together. I run the family business so I can drop in at home during the day to make sure Mum is OK and usually I help prepare her meals etc. From time to time I have to spend a day or so in the southwest , repairing property etc. or having a little time out to be by myself. Because she is a Self Funded Retiree, we cannot access adequate community funded respite care, and I have had to hire carers from the Yellow Pages etc. Then we found Private Aged Care. Esterlita does not stay full time with Mum but has her friend Faith stay and Esterlita drops in to check that everything is OK, and usually cooks us really great food,. Some we pack away to be eaten in the future. Cost is about the same, or probably less, but a much better and friendlier service.
I have a lot of help.My son, who runs his own business, drops in most days and my niece, a lawyer, works from home around the corner and is here every day. In addition, there is a cleaning lady and a gardener. Last year my son hired Esterlita from Private Aged Care and she comes and does my nails and general grooming. My son has taken to buying fresh ingredients before she comes and every week she has a cooking day where we all participate and make a variety of dishes, which are consumed on that day or stored for future. Esterlita cooks 5 or 6 main dishes/deserts. It has become the highlight of the week.
Esterlita is who you need in an emergency. I had a fall and the cleaning lady phoned my son who immediately called Esterlita. She was nearby and quickly arrived, called ambulance and phoned my GP and private hospitals so that I could avoid hours in an emergency ward. She waited with me until my geriatrician came and continued to discuss my care with the hospital personal, Fortunately, nothing was broken so after a few days she took me home. We do not book Esterlita every week but I keep in contact because I will no doubt experience a future emergency. In the meantime she takes me out and does cooking etc.,etc.
